What is the Tokyo International Projection Mapping Award?

 

The Tokyo International Projection Mapping Award is Japan’s largest projection mapping contest, launched with the aim of discovering and nurturing talent who will form the core of the future content industry, as well as advancing and popularizing projection mapping as a spatial video technology.

  • Work Theme: voyage
  • Work Type: Projection mapping video
  • Video Length: Within 1 minute 30 seconds

  • Web Entry Deadline: September 23 (Tuesday) 2:00 PM
  • Work & Document Submission Deadline: October 21 (Tuesday) 2:00 PM
  • Announcement of Selected Works: October 31 (Friday)
  • Screening Event & Judging: November 15 (Saturday) @ Tokyo Big Sight

 

Judging Criteria

 

Based on the following criteria, works will be selected for screening from the submitted entries, and outstanding works will be announced at the screening event in Tokyo Big Sight in November. Winning works will receive cash prizes and are scheduled for regular screening at Tokyo Big Sight.

  • Concept: Does the work align with the theme, and is it effectively conveyed?
  • Idea: Does the work utilize the characteristics of projection mapping, such as the projection surface and building features, to create expressive and surprising effects?
  • Technology: Does the work effectively utilize spatial video technologies such as 3DCG and animation?
  • Direction: Is the work an entertainment piece that combines music and video, enjoyable by people of all ages and nationalities?
  • Production: Has the team strictly adhered to the submission deadlines?

 

Awards & Prizes

 

The following awards will be presented to works recognized as outstanding among the submissions:

  • Grand Prize: ¥300,000 cash prize, trophy, certificate
  • Excellence Prize: ¥150,000 cash prize, trophy, certificate
  • Judges’ Special Award: Certificate (planned)
  • Tokyo Big Sight Award: Certificate (planned)

 

Eligibility

 

  • Students or young video creators ※1※2※3
  • Participation is open to teams of one or more members. If multiple people are involved, one representative must be chosen for the application.
  • For students, it is possible to form teams with students from other schools. However, the participation and signature of one responsible teacher (school staff) from each school are mandatory.
  • The team must include at least one person capable of using 3DCG and 2D animation applications.
    • ※1 For students, the participation of one responsible teacher (school staff) is mandatory.
    • ※2 For those under 18 years old (including high school students), the signature of a parent or guardian is required in addition to the signature of the responsible teacher (school staff).
    • ※3 For young video creators, there is no age limit.

 

Screening Event

 

  • Date & Time: November 15, 2025 (Saturday) Doors Open 4:30 PM, Screening 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM (tentative)
  • Location: Tokyo Big Sight Conference Tower Front Plaza
  • Access: 3-11-1 Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo 135-0063
    • Yurikamome Line: 3-minute walk from Tokyo Big Sight Station
    • Rinkai Line: 7-minute walk from Kokusai-Tenjijo Station
  • Admission is free and open to all.
  • Online streaming is not currently planned.
  • Transportation and accommodation to the venue are at your own expense.
  • There is a possibility of change or cancellation depending on weather conditions or other circumstances.

 

Entry and Submission Materials

 

  1. Submission Materials Please complete the Web entry at the bottom of this page by the deadline, and then submit the following three items by their respective deadlines:
    • Web Entry Deadline: September 23 (Tuesday) 2:00 PM
    • Work & Document Submission Deadline: October 21 (Tuesday) 2:00 PM
    • (1) Project Proposal: A maximum of 10 pages including the project’s intention, image visuals, and storyboards. Page allocation is flexible. PDF format / within 5MB.
    • (2) Pledge Form: To participate in the award, you must submit the project proposal and pledge form with your handwritten signature, indicating your intention to participate. It is assumed that the team representative and all team members (including the school and responsible teacher for students) have given their consent. Signatures from [all] participants in the production are required on the pledge form. For students, signatures from school officials are also required.
    • (3) Work: Submit the following work:

Rights to the Works

 

After the screening event, outstanding works are planned to be used for projection mapping screenings held at Tokyo Big Sight. Ownership, copyright (including rights stipulated in Articles 27 and 28 of the Copyright Act), and all other rights of the submitted works belong to the organizer, the Tokyo International Projection Mapping Award Executive Committee. Usage licenses will be granted to cooperating companies such as Tokyo Big Sight Co., Ltd. and IMAGICA GROUP Co., Ltd. In addition to projection mapping screenings, the works will be used for public relations and promotional activities of the Award and the aforementioned companies (e.g., websites, TV, newspapers, magazines, digital signage, work collections, company overviews, etc., with no restrictions on still images or videos). However, participants are permitted to use the works as production records for their own job-hunting or artistic activities. *By entering the contest, you are deemed to have agreed to the above.
